Aromatherapy for Menopause

Aromatherapy presents many delightful choices to ease your way through menopause. Since many essential oils will smell as good as, or better than, perfume to you too – it’ll be worth your time to find the oils you like.

Essential oils provide many healing and balancing benefits for body, mind and spirit and their therapeutic use is the art and science of aromatherapy.

Essential oils are naturally present in certain leaves, flowers, bark, stems, twigs, fruit and roots, and most are extracted by steam distillation.

Clary sage

One of the very best essential oils for menopause is clary sage. Steam-distilled from the pink, blue or purple blossoms of this mint family herb, clary sage addresses many of the most distressing symptoms of menopause. It’s an estrogenic herb, meaning that it has similar properties to the hormone estrogen, and behaves similarly in the human body.

Geranium

The uplifting spicy-sweet, floral scent of geranium essential oil is balancing, relaxing and mood enhancing.

Geranium is a strong regulator of the female hormonal system. It stimulates the brain’s adrenal cortex, a primary regulator of hormones secreted by other organs including male and female sex hormones. This aspect makes geranium useful to treat unstable hormonal balance indicated by PMS and menopausal problems, for which it is especially helpful.

Lavender

Lavender is an antidepressant oil that balances and normalizes the system regardless of condition. It’s calming, uplifting and relaxing – a pleasant way to help you de-stress. It’s even been known to lower blood pressure!
