Cool product stops hot flashes discreetly

I don’t have hot flashes or night sweats,  so when Susie Hadas, Founder and Chief People Person of Personally Cool Inc. and the inventor of coldfront offered to send me her product so I could write a review about it, I hesitated – but only slightly.

My husband and I visited my parents at their cottage in Quebec for Thanksgiving. It was very beautiful – lots of red and yellow leaves filling up the wraparound deck, and quite cold. Inside the cottage was well heated and toasty warm.

As soon as I could, I introduced coldfront and explained how it works to my 52-year-old sister and 80-year-old mother – both of whom have hot flashes.

Everything about coldfront is professional. The instructions for how to use it, the carrying case, the palm packs themselves are discreet and, yes, about the size of your palm.

To get started, place the zippered pack into the freezer for 12 hours. Take it out and leave it where you can find it quickly!

First, would it pass the mom test?

I watched as Mom opened the zippered coldfront carrying pouch and took out the two very cold gel-filled ‘palm packs’. Her first thought was like mine and my sister’s – those soft gel packs  are approximately the same size and shape as bra padding inserts!! We laughed, but none of us actually volunteered to try them out that way!

Here’s what Mom said about coldfront, after coping with hot flashes for more than 30 years: “Oh, that’s just what you want! It’s like an ice cube but it doesn’t drip!” She started experimenting with where she could apply it – on her wrists and neck. “I can feel my skin cool right away!” She liked how lightweight the entire kit is – less than a pound of butter. My sister is a bit of a harder sell than our mother.

The next day, we had a male visitor at the cottage who sat with my sister, parents and husband at the table and talked for awhile. Sure enough, before too long she could feel a hot flash coming on. She’s in sales, so she kept talking as she walked over to the coldfront kit, unzipped it, took out the palm packs and began applying them to her neck, back of her head, throat and wrists. No one seemed to notice a thing, even though she was talking to them!

Later we talked about the neighbor’s visit and the hot flash that she stopped with coldfront packs while he was here.

Her verdict?

“It was good! It didn’t involve me having to get ice or a wet cloth. It was easy. It was quicker to get it out (of the case) than I thought it would be.”

What would you have done if the coldfront hadn’t been available?

“I would have hopped from one foot to another, pulled up my sleeves, wiped the sweat off my face discretely and pulled my hair off my forehead. It would have been really hard to focus on the conversation.” Hmmm.

She decided it was OK to use coldfront in a group situation, but wasn’t sure if she would feel comfortable using it in a business meeting: one on one, or in a boardroom. She thought it would be great while sitting at her cubicle, or maybe out for drinks or dinner.

Personally, I think that, over time, with repeated use, she might find many situations where she’d rather use coldfront than do the sweaty dance. Maybe that’s just me, but I don’t have hot flashes remember?! :-P
