Mike Menkes is a stress relief and pain management expert. He developed the Cranial Balance Technique – not specifically for menopause – but most of the conditions it treats could be considered menopause symptoms. They include hormone imbalance, stress, anxiety, lack of focus or clarity, headaches, poor sleep patterns, and fatigue. If your menopause includes any of these symptoms, the Cranial Balance Technique may be the ideal treatment for you!

Keep in mind that when you lower your stress levels, you’ll be lowering your cortisol levels, which is a good thing for several reasons. 

Cortisol is the hormone released by your adrenal glands in response to a stressful event – so cortisol is known as the ‘stress hormone’. Excessive cortisol is linked to weight gain; poor-functioning immune system, and it increases the amount of free fatty acids circulating in your arteries, that, over time, can lead to clogged arteries.

High cortisol levels have been linked to high blood pressure, and high blood sugar which can lead to diabetes.

Studies on premenopausal women have found that higher cortisol levels signal the body to crave fat and sugar! Other studies have found that elevated cortisol levels tend to cause fat to deposit on the abdominal area! (So that’s why I have fat there!!)

When your cortisol levels are low, you’ll likely be able to lose weight easier!

Remember to walk around after the treatment to reset your body’s neuromuscular coordination!

If you had trouble finding the ‘right’ spot to place your thumb and middle finger, try not to overthink it. I asked Mike for a specific  written description and this is what he had to say: “The two indentations are about two inches to the right and left of the occipital knob, the round bumpy area in the middle near the base of the skull.”

Other effective stress management strategies include yoga, Tai Chi, mindfulness, meditation, visualization, progressive relaxation, and deep breathing. Healthy eating and getting enough good quality sleep are other essential elements in a healthy lifelong stress management plan.
