The Truth About the Health Benefits of Sex for Women

There are many surprising (free!!) health benefits to sex that many inspire you to keep sexually active through menopause and for the rest of your life!

Sexual intercourse at any adult age can increase circulation, reduce anxiety, relieve pain—and help to relax and satisfy.

I’ve chosen 15 health benefits of sex for women and I’ve included a few for men at the end – just in case you need extra motivation to take off your clothes, slide between the sheets and reach for your sweetheart!

  1. Want the benefits of more sex hormones without the risks of supplementing? Make your own hormones! Regular lovemaking can increase your estrogen levels, protect your heart and keep your vaginal tissues more supple.
  2. Interested in natural anti-aging? Making love increases the amount of oxygen in your cells which will slow aging by keeping your organs and tissues functioning at their best. It might help you live longer too!
  3. Stressed? Make love, lower your blood pressure and relax! Although a hug from her partner also lowers a women’s blood pressure, there are greater benefits for going all the way! To do a basic Kegel exercise, tighten the muscles of your pelvic floor, as if you’re trying to stop the flow of urine. Count to three, then release. Repeat up to 10 times.
  10. Want more regular menstrual periods? Researchers have found that women who have sex at least once a week have more-regular menstrual cycles than those who have sex less frequently.
  11. Want the benefits of more exercise? Surprise! Sex qualifies as a form of physical exercise! It requires strength and physical effort to get your heart pumping faster and your lungs filled with oxygen.
  12. Concerned about your weight? Making love for 30 minutes burns 85 calories! When you ‘do it’ three times a week you’ll burn about 7,500 calories a year — the equivalent of jogging 75 miles.
  13. Want to feel happier? A recent study figured that regular sexual activity makes you happier than earning an extra $100,000 a year!
  14. Want to feel GOOD?  Sex is pleasure, pure pleasure – when it’s done right, of course! Tip: Ladies if you find he needs some instruction on his techniques, reinvent your sex life and ask him if he’s open to trying something that you read in a magazine.   15. Want sex more frequently? Keep having sex! The more you make love, the more you want to do it again! The hormone testosterone, mostly responsible for women’s sexual desire, is created during sexual activity.

Regular sex has many health benefits for your male partner, in addition to most of the benefits for women. The testosterone that his body manufactures during sex is believed to help keep men’s bones and muscles strong. Regular ejaculation helps to keep a man’s prostate healthy. A long-term study of a group of men found that having sex twice or more a week reduced a man’s risk of fatal heart attack by half.

    Hello, I am looking (and looking..) for any research on the BENEFITS of increased belly fat in women in menopause. Or at least someone questioning “Ok, why exactly does our body do that?(I KNOW it’s trying to generate estrogen) but WHY? And if we trust a healthy, active, well-fed, well-rested, peaceful 50 y/0 woman’s body at a healthy, trim weight: what is it trying to do by collecting additional fat around her belly?” I prefer to give my body/mind/soul/spirit as much of what it needs as I am able, and then trust it to do what is is created to do. Anybody….?
